Spawn was key to an artist movement in comics with Todd McFarlane at the helm.  Image Comics was started to give freedom to artists and writers that could not be provided by the Comics Code Authority.  Spawn is the gritty story of an assassin hired by the devil to weak havoc on the living and the dead.
